Bring Your Number to Vela Mobile

Keep the number everyone knows. Find out what you need, get instructions for your current carrier, and prepare to make the switch.

Can I keep my phone number?

Yes. You can bring your current number to Vela Mobile from almost any carrier.

What You’ll Need

Four things from your current carrier:

  • The phone number you want to keep
  • Your account number
  • Your transfer PIN (some carriers call it a port-out PIN or Number Transfer PIN)
  • The ZIP code on your account

On a family or business account? You may need the account owner or an authorized administrator to help obtain your transfer information.

Getting Started

Before You Switch

These four steps will help you get ready to bring your number to Vela Mobile.

01

Do not cancel your current service.

Your old line must stay active until the transfer is finished. If you cancel first, you can lose your number.

02

Keep your old SIM in your phone

Your current carrier may text you a code or ask you to confirm the transfer.

03

Turn off any number lock

Many carriers block transfers by default. Look for Number Lock, Line Lock, Account Lock, or Port Out Protection in your carrier's app.

04

Get Your Transfer Details

Confirm your account number and required PIN with your carrier. Request a temporary transfer PIN when you are ready to switch, since these codes expire.

05

Give us your details exactly as your current carrier has them

The name and ZIP code must match your old account.

06

If you have to call, expect a sales pitch

The agent may ask why you are leaving or offer you a deal to stay. You can say no thank you and ask again for your account number and transfer PIN.

Find Your Current Carrier

Select your carrier below for help finding your account number and transfer PIN.

Carrier instructions can change. If an option is unavailable or your details do not work, contact your current carrier to confirm the information required for your transfer.

If Your Transfer Does Not Go Through

Most failed transfers come down to one of these five things.

  • The PIN is wrong or expired. Request a new transfer PIN from your current carrier and send it to us.
  • The account number is wrong. It is usually not your phone number. Check your carrier’s section above.
  • The name or ZIP code does not match. Give us both exactly as they appear on your old account.
  • A number lock is still on. Turn it off in your current carrier’s app, then let us know so we can try again.
  • Your old service was canceled. Contact your old carrier right away and ask them to reactivate the line so the number can be transferred.
